Blair House

Built in 1824 for Dr. Joseph Lovell, first Surgeon General of the United States, Blair House was one of the most fashionable homes in one of the few fashionable locations in the fledgling capital. Today this National Historic Landmark (actually five homes together) serves as the official guest house of the President of the United States.  Foreign dignitaries stay there while on official visits to the U.S.  Among the guests the house has recently hosted are British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Chinese president Jiang Zemin and Israeli Prime Minister Ehuh Barak.
