United States Marine Corps
War Memorial

The US Marine Corps Memorial honors the thousands of Marines who have given their lives in the defense of this nation for more than two centuries.  Chosen to represent the Marine contribution is the famous scene of the flag-raising on Mount Suribachi during the battle of Iwo Jima in World War II.  This scene was first immortalized by a chance photograph taken by Joe Rosenthal.  The sculpture based on the photograph is by Dr. Felix de Weldon

During the summer months, the U.S Marine Drum and Bugle Corps and Artillery Corps present a breathtaking extravaganza for the public each Tuesday evening.
