This museum is dedicated to understanding the natural world and our place
in it. Established in 1910, the Museum of Natural History is the second
most popular of all of the Smithsonian museums. The collections include
over 125 million specimens of plants, animals, fossils, minerals, rocks,
meteorites, and human cultural artifacts. Notable exhibits include the
Family Hall of Mammals and the museum's Hall of Dinosaurs. Other
exhibits detail the evolution of life on Earth, and the National Gem
Collection includes the Hope Diamond.
